Breast Cancer Care and Treatment
If you or someone you know has breast cancer, you are not alone. Breast cancer is the most common female cancer, accounting for nearly one out of every three cancer diagnoses in American women today. The good news is that breast cancer can now be detected early through regular breast screenings and is often successfully managed.
If you have been diagnosed with breast cancer, you and your family will meet with a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals from breast surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, plastic and reconstructive surgery and social work with extensive expertise in breast cancer during one comprehensive visit. You will have ample opportunity to ask questions and learn more about your care. You will have a clear understanding of what to expect and a unified recommendation for the best and most appropriate treatment option for you. The team continually monitors your progress and makes changes to your treatment plan as needed.
After your consultation, a nurse navigator will be available to assist you. She or he will help you navigate the course of your treatment(s) through completion. Nurse navigators can assist you in interpreting clinical information, help to coordinate your appointments, identify resources in the hospital or in the community to enhance your care, and provide emotional support for you and your family members. Nurse navigators at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center are nurse practitioners who have received special training and certification as breast health navigators.
Lahey Hospital & Medical Center’s commitment to patient health does not end when treatment does. It’s a lifetime commitment to help patients maintain breast health and to remain cancer free.
Research & Clinical Trials
In addition to conducting our own cancer clinical trials and research, the Lahey Health Cancer Institute (LHCI) also provides broad access to breast cancer clinical trials in the greater Boston area. This allows you to participate in the latest research without having to journey far from home. Below are Lahey Health Cancer Institute and Lahey’s current clinical trials pages.
