At the Lahey Health Cancer Institute (LHCI), we are committed to caring for you as a person. We value excellent communication, and we communicate incredibly well throughout our health system. Our goal is to make it as convenient as possible for you to get superior cancer care.

The vast majority of cancer care can be done in local settings not a great distance from your home. At LHCI, we are very focused on maintaining the latest expertise and harnessing the power of the latest technology. Our care model is to bring expert cancer care and services to our patients in the communities where they live.

Bringing hospitals together has allowed us to share resources and maintain seamless continuity of care. And bringing expert providers together allows for pooled knowledge and expertise for a common purpose – to treat your cancer and get you back to your daily living.

LHCI uses a multidisciplinary, or a team, approach as its foundation for delivering cancer services.

• Clinicians treating the same patient readily consult one another, review test results, and work in partnership on treatment plans.
• Regular tumor conferences are held to exchange information on complex and common diagnoses, and then, together, doctors plan the best therapies for patients.
• Cancer therapies are designed using the most advanced treatments, research, clinical trials, and support resources.

Treating the whole patient by understanding the emotional and physical effects of cancer is central to Lahey Health’s model of care.

The structure of the Lahey Health Cancer Institute ensures that people with cancer receive the same high-quality care regardless of location. Toward that end, we have organized teams across the Lahey Health system by disease site. These teams lead the standardization of our care and monitor our clinical quality performance.

The Lahey Health Cancer Institute is part of the Lahey Health system, located throughout northeastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire and comprised of:

• Nationally recognized, award-winning hospitals (including an academic hospital and medical center and community hospitals)
• Primary care providers and specialist physicians
• Behavioral health services
• Post-acute programs such as home health services, skilled nursing, and rehabilitation facilities
• Senior care resources

In addition to our New England programs, Lahey Health provides cancer support to residents of Bermuda. Approximately 40% of all the cancer diagnoses in Bermuda are treated by Lahey Health.

We are also starting cancer support programs in China and in St. Croix, Virgin Islands.

At the Lahey Health Cancer Institute (LHCI), we want your focus to be on your treatment and recovery, not on worries about finances. We have a knowledgeable support team, including a social worker and a financial coordinator, who will help you get the answers to all of your questions.

We Are Here to Help You

LHCI participates in or accepts most health insurance plans, including Medicare, Massachusetts Medicaid, and various managed care plans. Please check with your health plan to confirm participation.

If your health plan only covers partial costs, Lahey Health social workers and/or financial coordinators can help you find ways to finance out-of-pocket costs and investigate other options, such as assistance through charitable organizations. Just call us at 781-744-8924.

Our Commitment to You

• Bill your health plan for covered services before billing you (except for copays, coinsurance, or deductibles known at the time of treatment)
• Make reasonable efforts to obtain referrals, authorizations, and precertifications from your health plan
• Work with you to help you understand your health plan coverage and out-of-pocket responsibility
• Help you apply for the MassHealth, Commonwealth Care, and Health Safety Net (Free Care) programs
• Provide you with interest-free payment plans if you are uninsured or have large balances after insurance
• Conduct business according to the principles that all Lahey Health employees aim to following: respect, caring, teamwork, excellence, and commitment to personal best
