Multidisciplinary Team of Cancer Experts
We use a multidisciplinary, team approach to plan and deliver your care. Each of our clinicians treating you consult with one another, review test results and work in partnership on treatment plans. We hold conferences weekly to exchange details on complex and common diagnoses. Then, our doctors work together to plan the best therapy plan for you.
Understanding the emotional and physical effects cancer is having on you is central to the care we provide. That’s why, in addition to expert physicians, your care team also includes a personal nurse navigator, behavioral health specialists and nutritionists. And we offer supportive care services such as support groups in addition to cancer rehabilitation.
Screening & Testing Services
Cancer Screening and Diagnostic Tests
Since early detection of cancer is key, we work hard to ensure you get proper screenings and comprehensive diagnostic services. Our board-certified pathologists work with radiologists, genetic counselors and other specialists to deliver accurate test results as quickly as possible. Genetic Testing & Counseling Services
If you are concerned about how your treatment might affect plans to have a child in the future, we offer fertility counseling services. We also offer genetic testing for you and family members. This testing can identify certain markers in your blood that could guide your treatments and decisions about your care plan.
Your First Cancer Center Appointment
What To Expect
You may find comfort in knowing specific steps you’ll take during your first cancer care visit. Here is an overview of what to expect:
- The visit could last over an hour.
- We will explain the roles of a medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, patient navigator and others who may be involved in your care.
- We will explain any lab work, imaging studies or other steps you need to take before treatment begins.
- We will talk about your medical history and background to ensure all the facts we have are correct.
- Our goal at the end of the meeting is for you and your family to leave with confidence and a clear understanding of your care plan.
Bring a Support Person
At Lahey, we count your loved ones as a key part of your care team. Having the support of family and friends during your cancer treatment is important. And it’s important for us to support your loved ones as well.
With your consent, family members and significant others are welcome to join you during visits and discussions with your care team. They may stay with you during chemotherapy, if it’s part of your care plan.
