Get Started
Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC) offers several fellowship programs in Radiology, including Breast Imaging, Interventional Radiology, and Neuro-Interventional Radiology. Each fellowship program provides comprehensive clinical training at LHMC's main campus in Burlington, MA or at affiliated hospitals. In addition to gaining advanced expertise in their radiology field, fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in clinical research projects. The Breast Imaging fellowship position is a one-year position at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center.
The fellowship position will provide comprehensive training in all aspects of breast imaging including screening and diagnostic mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and all breast imaging related procedures. Special attention will be paid to all advanced breast imaging techniques. Advanced expertise will be gained in all interventional procedures including stereotactic core needle biopsies, tomosynthesis guided core needle biopsies, ultrasound guided procedures, MRI guided biopsies, needle aspirations, and wire and non-wire needle localizations. Direct involvement in the weekly Breast Tumor Conference is a component of the training which adds depth and breadth of pathology and treatment correlation with the imaging findings. Educational and research activities are strongly encouraged and supported with academic time provided for these activities.
Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is a high-volume screening organization and performs over 40,000 breast imaging exams a year with over 120 DBT screening mammograms per day.
In addition to comprehensive breast training, the fellow will also function as a part-time general radiologist allowing for maintenance of skills in general radiology including plain films, body CT and body ultrasound. The part-time attending status has associated part-time attending-level salary and benefits.
Fellows will have academic appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine.
The majority of a fellow’s time is spent at LHMC's main campus located in Burlington, MA — within 30 minutes of historic Boston and Cambridge. Thus there is great diversity of living choices available, including beautiful suburban areas or more metropolitan settings as desired. The fellow will have the opportunity to participate in breast care at LHMC's Peabody campus as well.
Interested applicants please email CV with cover letter and three (3) letters of reference to Nancy Holden.

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is a high volume organization, with over 8,000 interventional radiology procedures annually. LHMC is among the top 10 liver transplants centers in the United States1, providing care for a large number of patients with liver disease. The Interventional Radiology Department has traditionally very strong relationship with LHMC’s Clinic Department of Urology and participates in joint procedures that treat renal cancer, renal and ureteral stones, post renal transplant care.
IR fellows spend the majority of their time at the Main Campus of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, MA, and approximately one day per week at Beverly Hospital north of Boston and Lahey Outpatient Center in Danvers.
In our sister hospital, Beverly Hospital, the fellows will get exposure to the treatments of Peripheral Arterial Disease, Spine Augmentation procedures and Dialysis Access management. At our Vein Center in the Lahey Outpatient Center, Danvers, fellows will receive full immersion in outpatient settings, perform initial evaluation of patients with venous disease, carry out venous ultrasounds, follow conservative treatments and learn to perform a full gamut of vein procedures including RFA, EVLT, phlebectomy, and sclerotherapy.
As future clinicians, educators and leaders, we invite our fellows to take part in preclinical and clinical research projects available at LHMC Radiology and to take an active role in the education of our residents and medical students.
All of us at the LHMC Interventional Radiology Department strive to create a well-rounded clinical and academically rich and fertile environment for professional and personal growth of the future Interventional Radiologist.
The department of Radiology-Interventional Radiology Section is committed to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion, which are essential to the educational mission of our fellowship.
