Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery
According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 5 children and 1 in 3 adults struggle with the disease of obesity. Weight disorders not only impact lifestyle but can also lead to lower self-esteem, depression, discomfort in social situations, and diminished quality of life. Weight disorders also increase a person’s risk for developing serious obesity-related health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, and polycystic ovary syndrome.
The causes of obesity are different for everyone. We know that food choices, physical activity, medications, genetics, gut bacteria and hormones/metabolism within the body can all be reasons for developing the disease of obesity. Losing weight can be one of the most difficult challenges a person can face, because of these many causes for weight gain. At Lahey, we understand that. That’s why our program offers metabolic and weight loss surgery options to our patients with many support resources from a team of multidisciplinary specialists.
