Physical Therapy

Highly Skilled Inpatient and Outpatient Physical Therapy Services

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center’s physical therapy service is comprised of nearly 70 licensed therapists and therapy assistants who provide services to patients who have impairments, functional limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease or other causes.

At Lahey, we offer physical therapy services on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Physicians refer patients to us for treatment of musculoskeletal, neuromuscular and cardiopulmonary conditions and injuries.

Inpatient Physical Therapy

We have a highly skilled and diverse staff of nearly 20 inpatient physical therapists. Working as a team with physicians, nursing staff, occupational therapists and other hospital staff, these therapists provide patients with world-class rehabilitation care while in the hospital. By helping inpatients, the therapists’ primary goal is for them to achieve a safe and appropriate discharge from the hospital.

Before a person receives inpatient physical therapy, a comprehensive evaluation is performed to determine areas of physical limitation. Treatment incorporates the patient’s goals, and may consist of:

  • Mobility training (ability to get in and out of bed and walk on level surfaces and up and down stairs)
  • Exercise
  • Pulmonary therapy to assist with breathing and lung capacity
  • Patient and family education
  • Discharge planning

Outpatient Physical Therapy

The outpatient physical therapy staff consists of 50 dynamic therapists at Lahey Rehabilitation Services, Danvers; Lahey Outpatient Center, Lexington; Lahey Rehabilitation Services, Burlington; and Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. Our outpatient therapy staff includes specialists and those with advanced certifications. We have therapists with advanced training in the creation of custom foot orthotics, sports medicine injuries, vestibular rehabilitation, cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation, women & men’s pelvic health, ergonomic training and the treatment of patients with lymphedema. Lahey therapists also participate in the Parkinson’s Disease Community Wellness Program.

Golf Fitness Assessments

Available from Lahey Physical Therapists

Let the experts at LHMC help you avoid injury and improve your golf game.

Our Golf Fitness Assessment Program is a full-body evaluation led by Lahey physical therapists that have been certified by the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI).

Our TPI-certified physical therapists assess 14 different movements necessary for an efficient body swing. The assessment helps determine how your body is prepared for the twisting, turning, and motions necessary to golf, and provides the basic building blocks for you to swing effectively.

Your evaluation will be used to create a unique, personalized plan, which may include:

  • Working with a golf coach
  • Fitness training
  • Physical treatment
  • Mental strategy

If you’re experiencing mobility and stability issues, they may lead to future pain, injury and decreased performance in your sport.

Come for a personalized assessment and let us help you identify your issues and learn how to adapt and improve your golf swing before you’re back on the green next spring. Achieve your personal golf goals, play better, play longer, and enjoy the game more.
