Lahey Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) is just one way we dramatically enhanced patient care. With PACS, digital x-ray images are captured and stored electronically and can be shared immediately with anyone at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Burlington, Lahey Medical Center, Peabody or Lahey Outpatient Center, Lexington. This advanced technology offers both you and your physician immediate access to radiological exam images. We offer safe and secure Web access for your physician within the Lahey network; your privacy is ensured.
The digital images from your study, are copied to a CD that can be easily accessed by physicians outside the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center network. CDs hold multiple studies and take up significantly less space than the traditional film. These digital images offer your physician the ability to adjust your images in ways not possible with traditional x-ray film. Your physician can fine-tune the images to accommodate their preferences including making the images lighter, darker, or zooming in for a closer view.

A radiologist, a physician who specializes in reading and interpreting diagnostic imaging studies, analyzes the results of all examinations performed in the Department of Radiology. The radiologist will then provide the physician who ordered your examination with an interpretation of the findings. The use of computerized dictation systems and report storage results in the rapid transfer of this information to your physician, who will generally have the results of your examination on the same day that it is performed. Please note: You may only obtain the results of your examination(s) through the physician who ordered your study. The Department of Radiology does not provide results to patients directly.
