Team Training
Poor communication, especially during critical events, are major contributors to health care errors. That is why teamwork is the key focus of the Center for Professional Development and Simulation at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center.
Our center is unique in that we integrate all disciplines, including surgical, medical, nursing and allied health professionals, as a critical part of our training. In addition, we recognize the need to start teaching teamwork skills early in providers’ careers and have created and implemented an innovative training program where medical and nursing students train together to build those skills.
Our center uses the TeamSTEPPS (Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety) evidence-based system to teach teamwork and communication skills from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), a program of the US Department of Health and Human Services.
