At Lahey you will find world-renowned physicians who are experienced with the very latest medical technology and perform state-of-the-art procedures for liver or kidney transplants, brain and spine neurosurgery, heart surgery, cancer care and much more.
You will also find doctors, nurses and others who truly care about each patient. We have developed personal relationships with many of our international travelers. Our goal is to successfully treat your medical need while making your entire experience as comfortable and successful as possible.
Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is fully accredited by The Joint Commission, a leader in setting quality and safety standards for U.S. hospitals. Among our many awards and achievements:
Lahey’s international outreach goes both ways. More than two dozen Lahey physicians travel on behalf of Lahey to countries around the world as part of our International Health program.
Much of the work they do involves seeing patients in special clinics to provide medical care. In fact, you may have already met one of our outstanding doctors if your own doctor referred you to one of our clinics in your home country.
Lahey physicians also perform medical education sessions for doctors in other countries, sharing their knowledge and experience with their counterparts for the benefit of patients around the world.
For example, Lahey doctors have been visiting Bermuda since the late 1980s. They organize health fairs, participate in fundraising events and treat patients who have a wide range of medical needs.
If you are interested in receiving care at Lahey, the place to begin is with Lahey’s International Health office to help plan your visit. At Lahey’s International Health office, our nurse manager will work with you to evaluate your medical needs and arrange the most convenient schedule possible. Because Lahey draws clinicians from virtually every specialty into a single location, multiple appointments can be scheduled and coordinated with the ease of a single telephone call.
Please call us at 1-781-744-8401 to make an appointment, or email us to ask questions or seek cost estimates.
Our staff will work with you to provide an expense estimate before you come to Lahey. If you are working with an embassy or other payor and anticipate surgery or a hospital stay (admission), we can often determine an estimate of total fixed costs for those services, including all physician and hospital costs.
At the time of appointment scheduling, we will request a credit card number. If you prefer to pay cash, we will assist you in arranging a wire transfer. These funds on your credit card are held on deposit until after your visit to Lahey.
Lahey provides translation services for international patients who are unfamiliar with the English language. For more information about these services, please call the International Health office at 1-781-744-8401, or use the AT&T Language Line at 800-523-1786.
If you need translation or interpreter services, contacting us in advance, before your visit to Lahey, is recommended so we can best accommodate your request.
The staff provides patients from outside the United States with assistance regarding airline reservations and local hotel accommodations and transportation. For more information on these services, please contact us.
Most people traveling to the United States for health care come using the same visa (B-2) as individuals traveling for pleasure. We will provide the necessary letters to the U.S. Embassy in your country to help you obtain a visa for medical treatment.
Only the American Embassy or Consulate with jurisdiction over your country of permanent residence can approve your visa application. Please visit the U.S. State Department website for more information.
If you are a healthcare provider in another country and would like to refer a patient to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center for treatment, Lahey’s International Medicine office will work closely with you to coordinate your patient’s visit.
Our office will also keep you informed about your patient’s progress and will assist your patient with any needed services such as accommodations, translation services and transportation. When treatment is finished, we will send you the patient’s records so you can continue your care.
