BURLINGTON, MA – Randolph “Randy” Howard Jr., FACHE, has joined Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC) as senior vice president and chief operating officer. He will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations at the hospital and associated sites, including strategic leadership, planning and team development initiatives.

Howard is an accomplished leader with more than 30 years of experience in health care, including serving 20 years in the U.S. Army as a Medical Services Corps officer.

“Randy’s proven leadership experience across many different care environments and settings will bring a unique perspective to our team,” said Susan Moffatt-Bruce, MD, PhD, president of LHMC. “I am confident that Randy’s background and expertise will be an asset in helping to further advance Lahey’s strong commitment to delivering high-quality care to our patients and community.”

Howard retired from the U.S. Army as a lieutenant colonel in 2004. He most recently served as chief operating officer for St. Catherine of Siena Hospital, a 296-bed hospital in New York, where he oversaw daily operational and administrative functions, set goals for clinical service lines, and ensured patient safety and satisfaction.

Prior to that, he held a number of positions with Northwell Health in New York, including as the system’s senior vice president for corporate facilities services as well as deputy executive director and chief operating officer for Huntington Hospital, where he led the hospital’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He joined Northwell in 2009 as inaugural director for the Office of Military and Veterans Liaison Services and director of the Rosen Family Wellness Center.

Howard also served as field operations director for Health Net Federal Services, a health services organization that partners with the Department of Defense to deliver TRICARE, the military’s health care program, to nearly three million beneficiaries.

Howard earned his Bachelor of Science in biology from Boston College and Master of Healthcare Administration from Baylor University in Texas. He has been a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives since 1999.

“I am honored to join the dedicated team at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center,” Howard said. “I look forward to working collaboratively with my colleagues in furthering Lahey’s mission of providing comprehensive, coordinated critical care to our patients and advancing our commitment to health care excellence within the community.”
