Susan Moffatt-Bruce, MD, PhD, Joins Lahey Hospital & Medical Center as President
Burlington, Mass. – Susan Moffatt-Bruce, MD, PhD, has joined Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC) as its new president and will lead the medical center’s efforts in providing exceptional clinical care and pioneering treatment, research and education to the region.
Moffatt-Bruce most recently served as chief executive officer of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, a national professional association committed to excellence in medical education and the advancement of learning for specialty physicians. She concurrently served as chief executive officer of Royal College International and was a faculty member of the Department of Surgery and a professor at the University of Ottawa. Previously, she led University Hospital, a 700-bed academic medical center and flagship patient care facility of The Ohio State University (OSU) Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Prior to that, she was OSU Wexner Medical Center’s inaugural chief quality and patient safety officer.
“Dr. Moffatt-Bruce’s vast clinical and academic expertise and administrative leadership experience will further strengthen Lahey Hospital & Medical Center’s ability to deliver exceptional care, driven by clinical collaboration and innovative technology,” said Michael Rowan, executive vice president for hospital and ambulatory services at Beth Israel Lahey Health, which includes LHMC. “We are confident her accomplished background and proven talents will allow us to continue meeting the diverse health needs of our patients and the communities we serve.”

Moffatt-Bruce earned her bachelor’s degree at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and completed medical school and her residency in general surgery at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She undertook a PhD in transplant immunology at the University of Cambridge, England, and completed her Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship at Stanford University, California. She earned her Master of Business Operational Excellence and her Executive Master of Business Administration at the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University.
Moffatt-Bruce succeeds David Longworth, MD, who retired as president of LHMC in December 2022. Tim Liesching, MD, chief medical officer of LHMC, served as interim president until Dr. Moffatt-Bruce’s arrival.
