Kind Hearts and Helping Hands

Thank you for your interest in the Volunteer Program at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. We are fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers who make a positive difference in the overall well-being of our community. We sincerely value and appreciate the compassion, caring and commitment each volunteer team member provides our patients and staff. Their kind hearts and helping hands can elevate a patient’s visit or hospital stay from ordinary to one filled with caring and kindness.

Junior Volunteer Program

LHMC welcomes junior volunteers for a 9-week, structured program where students gain experience working in a hospital environment.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers have the opportunity to assist in a variety of areas throughout the hospital. All volunteer assistance is valuable, whether greeting or escorting patients and visitors, delivering materials, passing out snacks, helping people with lunch, or stocking supplies. Our department staff, as well as our patients and visitors, appreciate the commitment and help all our volunteers provide.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Lobby Greeter
  • Messenger and Escort
  • Gift Shop
  • Central Processing Delivery Aid
  • Various Hospital Department Assistance

Other volunteer opportunities include:

Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC)

Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) serves as a voice for patients to provide valuable insight about care practices, hospital policies, current colleague projects, quality and safety recommendations, and identify patient and family needs or concerns. Learn more about the PFAC.

Pet Therapy Program

Research suggests that interaction with healthy, well-behaved pets can improve a patient’s mood, reduce anxiety, promote relaxation and provide comfort to families. Pet therapy programs have also been shown to improve staff morale. The Paws for Care pet therapy program at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center works with Pet Partners and Caring Canines to provide this service. All pet therapists have been screened and all pets have completed therapy certification.

Volunteer Musicians

Our volunteer musicians provide relaxing, pleasing music to enhance the lobby environment for patients, families and staff. Our talented musicians take great care in creating a calm, relaxing space by playing either the piano, harp, or dulcimer.

In addition to meeting new people and knowing you have made a positive difference, our volunteers are eligible to receive:
