As the only Level I trauma center north of Boston, Lahey Clinic is uniquely qualified to provide time-sensitive, high-quality care to patients and families across the region. Our trauma center serves as a critical referral resource, receiving patients from hospitals throughout Massachusetts.

Our experienced care teams are equipped to manage a full spectrum of serious injuries, including those resulting from motor vehicle crashes, falls, and other high-impact events. We provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment for even the most complex and life-threatening conditions.

Trauma surgery is a specialized field focused on the immediate care of patients with severe injuries, typically resulting traumatic events. At Lahey, our trauma surgeons are supported by fully equipped operating rooms and a highly skilled team capable of managing complex surgical cases at any time. When surgery is required, patients benefit from advanced techniques and expert, coordinated care.

We also offer immediate access to state-of-the-art diagnostic technology, including CT scanning, MRI, and advanced imaging capabilities. These resources enable rapid, accurate assessment of injuries, allowing our teams to initiate treatment without delay.

The trauma center is staffed 24/7 by specialized trauma surgeons, anesthesiologists, critical care providers, dedicated trauma nurses, and a broad team of allied health professionals, all trained to deliver a rapid and seamless response to any trauma emergency.

At Lahey, our board-certified trauma surgeons work within a fully integrated, multidisciplinary team. Depending on each patient’s injuries, care is coordinated with specialists in neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, vascular surgery, interventional radiology, emergency medicine, and surgical critical care. Additional collaboration with rehabilitation services, nursing, and other allied health professionals ensures seamless, patient-centered care across the entire continuum—from initial resuscitation through recovery and discharge.

Support During Your Hospital Stay

Once you’re admitted to Lahey Clinic, for continued care, you’ll likely need rehabilitation to help you heal. You may be admitted to our intensive care unit (ICU) so we can closely monitor your condition and offer highly specialized care if you need it during recovery.
