More About Cosmetic Surgery

Body Surgery & Lifts

As you age, your body shape changes. Pregnancy or losing a lot of weight also changes your body shape. Lahey plastic surgeons provide procedures to improve the appearance of all body areas.

Many procedures are appropriate after major weight loss, especially after a bariatric surgery.

Common body surgeries include:

  • Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty): Pregnancy or significant weight loss can cause loose and sagging skin. Your doctor removes excess tissue and tightens the abdominal muscles. You get an improved contour and appearance of your lower abdomen.
  • Arm tuck (brachioplasty): Aging or significant weight loss can make the skin on your arms loose and lax. Your doctor removes excess tissue to give you arms that look more defined without sagging skin.
  • Thigh/buttock lift: A thigh/buttock lift tightens loose thigh tissue and saggy buttocks. Your doctor tightens and lifts excess skin and tissue to give you a more contoured lower body.
Body Contouring After Weight Loss

When you lose a large amount of weight, the skin and tissues often sag. Body contouring removes excess sagging fat and skin. These procedures improve the shape and tone of underlying tissues. You get a more normal appearance.

Procedures include:

  • Lower body lift (belt lipectomy): Your doctor removes excess skin and fat from your abdomen, buttocks, flanks and hips. The procedure combines a tummy tuck and buttock lift. Your doctor tightens underlying muscles and repositions skin. You get a smoother, more toned appearance, reduced rashes and improved body function. After surgery, you wear compression garments for several weeks of downtime.
  • Panniculectomy: Your surgeon removes the hanging apron of excess skin and fat (pannus) from around the abdomen. This common procedure improves hygiene, reduces rashes and alleviates mobility issues.
Breast Surgery

If you want to change the appearance of your breasts, Lahey surgeons provide expert care.

We understand that breast size can cause concern and even painful symptoms. Breast shape changes as you age and after pregnancy.

Your surgeon will talk with you about your breast health and goals. You can choose a procedure to change or restore the shape, size and appearance of your breasts.

Surgeries we provide include:

  • Breast enlargement: During a breast enlargement, your doctor can give you fuller, shapelier breasts. This procedure can correct uneven breasts or restore breast volume lost after pregnancy. Breast enlargement is also called breast enhancement or breast augmentation.
  • Breast lift: As you age, your skin loses elasticity. This can cause your breasts to lose their shape and firmness and sag. During a breast lift, your doctor reshapes and lifts the breasts to a more aesthetically pleasing position. If you want to adjust the size of your breasts, your surgeon can combine a lift with an enlargement or reduction.
  • Breast reduction: If you have large breasts, your doctor can remove excess breast tissue and skin. A breast reduction can reduce symptoms of back pain, shoulder pain, and skin breakdown or grooving in your shoulders from your bra strap.
Facial & Neck Procedures

We provide surgical care to:

  • Refine facial features
  • Rejuvenate the aging face
  • Treat skin imperfections

Procedures we offer include:

  • Brow/forehead lift: A brow/forehead lift eliminates the appearance of an overhanging brow and forehead. Your doctor corrects your brow position. This gives the upper portion of your face a more open and rested appearance.
  • Cheek augmentation: During a cheek augmentation, your doctor places hard silicone implants to improve the appearance of your cheeks. Surgery can bring your cheeks into balance with the rest of the face. The cheek augmentation process was originally used to repair birth defects or injuries.
  • Chin augmentation: If you have a weak or receding chin, your doctor can make your chin more prominent. Surgery can balance your profile and improve your confidence. Your doctor may use implants, fat transfer or bone movement to change the appearance of your chin.
  • Ear reconstruction (otoplasty): If the ears stick out too far from your head, your surgeon can perform a correction. Also called ear pinning, this procedure gives you a more normal appearance.
  • Eyelid lift (blepharoplasty): If you think your eyes give you a tired or sad-eye appearance, an eyelid lift may help. Your doctor removes drooping skin from the upper eyelids. The surgeon also removes excess fat and tissue to minimize bags under the eyes. An eyelift gives you a younger-looking appearance.
  • Facelift (rhytidectomy): When you get a facelift, your doctor smooths loose skin on your face and neck. The surgery tightens the underlying tissues.
  • Hairline adjustment/forehead reduction surgery: If you have a receding hairline or a large forehead, surgery can help. Your doctor moves the scalp forward. This can provide a younger appearance and a smaller forehead.
  • Lip lift: When you want a larger upper lip, a lip lift is an option. Your doctor performs surgery to bring the upper lip closer to the bottom of the nose. This increases the visible pink part of the upper lip. A lip lift can expose more upper teeth when smiling and reduce the signs of aging.
  • Neck lift: A neck lift tightens the appearance of sagging or excess fat and skin on your neck. This can be caused by losing a lot of weight. Aging also causes weak or loose neck muscles. Your doctor removes excess skin and fat to give you a more youthful look.
  • Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty): When you want to change the shape of your nose, your doctor can perform a rhinoplasty. Nose reshaping can also help correct breathing problems. During the procedure, your doctor changes the underlying structures of your nose. This procedure can make your nose larger or smaller, or change the look of the tip or bridge of your nose.
Liposuction

When you successfully lose weight with diet and exercise, you may still have stubborn areas of fat. These areas can be resistant to change.

Liposuction may be a good option for you. Your doctor will talk with you about the benefits of liposuction and what to expect from surgery.

During a liposuction, your doctor removes excess fat from areas of your body. You can get liposuction on your face, neck, abdomen, thighs and other body areas.

Liposuction can give you a more proportioned appearance.
