Diabetes in Pregnancy

Expert Diabetes Care During Pregnancy

Our diabetes in pregnancy team provides compassionate care before, during and after pregnancy. We care for patients with gestational diabetes, type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Our goal is to support healthy outcomes for both parent and baby through education, close monitoring and coordinated care with your obstetric team.

Gestational Diabetes Care

Gestational diabetes is a common and manageable condition during pregnancy. With the right support, most people have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. Our team includes endocrinology experts including physicians, advanced practice nurse practitioners and physician assistants, registered dieticians, and nurses specialized in diabetes care and education.

Our team provides personalized, supportive care to guide you with confidence, including:

  • Simple, practical guidance on nutrition, activity and monitoring
  • Medications or advanced tools when needed
  • Close coordination with your obstetric team
  • Convenient classes, in-person and virtual visits
  • Ongoing support to help you feel informed, supported and prepared throughout your pregnancy

Pre-Existing Diabetes in Pregnancy (Type 1 and Type 2)

We also care for people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes who are planning a pregnancy, currently pregnant or recently postpartum. Care is structured and closely coordinated to support both parent and baby.

Before Pregnancy

We focus on getting you ready for a healthy pregnancy. This includes:

  • Reviewing medications and making safe changes if needed
  • Diabetes education and planning
  • Setting individualized blood sugar goals
  • Using diabetes technology such as continuous glucose monitors (CGM) and automated insulin delivery (AID) systems when appropriate
  • Preconception counseling and support
During Pregnancy

Care during pregnancy is closely monitored and structured. This includes:

  • Frequent follow-up visits
  • Real-time glucose monitoring with CGM
  • Support for insulin adjustments
  • Use of automated insulin delivery systems (insulin pumps) when appropriate
  • Ongoing diabetes education and support
  • Close coordination with your obstetric team
After Pregnancy

After delivery, we continue care to support:

  • Safe changes in insulin or medications
  • Coordinate post-partum screening with oral glucose tolerance test 4 to 12 weeks after pregnancy
  • Ongoing diabetes management if needed
  • Long-term health planning and follow-up care

Throughout every stage, our team works closely with your OB providers to ensure safe, coordinated and high-quality care for you and your baby.
