New Leadership for Lahey Clinic’s Department of Surgery

Burlington, MA — Elliot Servais, MD, has been appointed Chair of the Department of Surgery at Lahey Clinic, part of Beth Israel Lahey Health.

Servais has been serving as interim chair since October 2025.

Since assuming the interim role, Servais has advanced key strategic priorities across clinical, academic, and operational objectives while fostering a culture focused on quality, innovation, engagement, and multidisciplinary care.

“Dr. Servais' expertise, collaborative leadership, and commitment to our patients and teams make him an outstanding choice to lead the Department of Surgery,” said Susan Moffatt-Bruce, MD, PhD, president of Lahey Clinic. “In this role, he will continue to strengthen clinical programs, advance innovation, support faculty development, and further our mission of excellence in patient care, education, and research.”

Servais previously served as Section Chief of Thoracic Surgery and has held several leadership positions at Lahey, including Vice Chair of Quality and Safety and Chair of the Robotic Surgery Committee.

He is an internationally recognized thoracic surgeon specializing in lung, esophageal, and foregut diseases and has earned national distinction for his contributions to robotic surgery, lung cancer screening, thoracic surgical oncology, and surgical quality.

An accomplished educator and funded clinical investigator, Servais is a Professor of Surgery at UMass Chan Medical School and has played an active role in educating and mentoring the next generation of surgeons. He is an elected member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and holds leadership positions in several national and international surgical societies.
