Endocrinology Training at Lahey
As part of Lahey Clinic's Endocrinology Fellowship, you will receive comprehensive training in diabetes mellitus and endocrine disorders. Our mission is to train outstanding clinical endocrinologists who will be leaders for patient care and quality improvement in their future practices. Our affiliations with multiple Boston hospitals and universities allow for a more in-depth research experience for those who desire.
Our dedicated and experienced faculty is what makes our program stand out. Each of us is committed to providing excellent clinical endocrinology training and mentorship to our fellows. Fellows get a diverse and extensive exposure to all endocrine conditions and have a well-balanced curriculum divided between inpatient and outpatient. Advanced Practice Provider Diabetes Fellowship Program
The one-year Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship in Diabetes is a structured program for nurse practitioners and physician assistants, including both new graduates and experienced clinicians seeking to specialize in diabetes care. It provides focused training in inpatient and outpatient management, with hands-on experience in complex diabetes and advanced technologies such as continuous glucose monitoring and automated insulin delivery.
The program reflects the growing role of APP fellowships in building specialized expertise to meet the increasing demand for high-quality diabetes care.

Learn More Endocrinology Fellowship
During your fellowship, you can expect to:
- Be trained in all aspects of endocrinology, including:
- Adrenal disorders
- Calcium metabolism disorders
- Diabetes
- Disorders of fluid and electrolytes
- Endocrine emergencies
- Lipid disorders
- Male and female reproductive endocrine disorders
- Metabolic bone disease
- Neuroendocrine disorders
- Nutritional disorders
- Obesity
- Pregnancy-related endocrine disorders
- Sexual dysfunction
- Thyroid disorders
- Gain experience managing all aspects of diabetes, including working with pregnant women who have the disease and actively participating in our insulin pump program.
- Participate in a multidisciplinary approach to obesity that includes endocrinologists, obesity specialists, dietitians, surgeons who perform bariatric surgery and behavioral medicine staff.
- Receive the bulk of your training at Lahey Clinic, Burlington. You’ll also attend a subspecialty clinic at Lahey Clinic, Peabody, and rotate through Children’s Medical Center at UMass Memorial Medical Center to gain experience with pediatric endocrine disorders.
Example Daily Schedule for the Outpatient Endocrine Clinic
Chart Work / Teaching Conference 7:30 am – 8:30 am
Outpatient General Endocrine Continuity Clinic 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Chart Work / Correspondence 4:30 pm – 5:00 pm
The Medical Weight Loss Clinic is held one day every third week for 6 weeks during the first year of the fellowship and coincides with your week in the outpatient clinic.
Reproductive Endocrine Clinic at Lahey Clinic, Peabody, is held one day every third week for 6 weeks during the first year of the fellowship and coincides with your week in the outpatient clinic.
The Pediatric Endocrinology rotation occurs at an affiliated local university hospital during the second year of fellowship.
You’ll also be required to attend multiple conferences each week. The schedule for these conferences appears below.
Example Daily Schedule for the Hospital Consult Service
Hospital Work Rounds 7:30 am – 11:00 am
Hospital Consults 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Attending Rounds 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm
Hospital Consults/Chart Work 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm
As is the case when working in the outpatient clinics, you’ll be required to attend weekly conferences.
Night Call/Weekend Call
Fellows are on call every third week including the weekend and are off the following Monday. On weekends, when you are covering the Inpatient Hospital Endocrine Consult Service, you and the attending are responsible for making hospital rounds together on all existing endocrine patients.
Our inpatient diabetes NP service runs parallel to the fellow service and has their own weekend coverage.
Applying to the Endocrinology Fellowship Program
The Lahey Endocrinology Fellowship Program participates in the application process yearly. We accept two fellows for even year start dates (2024, 2026, etc.) and one fellow for odd year start dates (2025, 2027, etc.).
Endocrinology fellowship applications are accepted through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Services).
The application deadline is August 1.

- USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) scores
Eligibility Requirements
To apply for an endocrinology fellowship at Lahey, you must:
- Hold an MD or DO degree
- Successfully complete an internal medicine residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education
Foreign Medical Graduate Applications
If you graduated from a medical school outside of the United States you must:
- Have a valid ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) certificate
- Qualify for a J-1 Visa from the ECFMG
