Shared Governance
We believe in empowerment of our nurses and promote shared decision-making and problem-solving as well as a proactive approach to improving patient care and safety. That’s why we operate under a shared governance model, allowing our nursing staff to work closely with leadership.
We hold monthly town hall meetings where nursing administration provides updates on Nursing Services and the organization as a whole. We also answer your questions and address your concerns. Our goal is to keep you connected and allow you to provide input on key decisions.
Educational Opportunities & Professional Growth
At Lahey, we support ongoing education, certification and professional development through our Clinical Advancement Program. We offer tuition assistance, including scholarships for nurses working to advance their careers, as well as loan forgiveness. Continuing Education
Lahey Nursing Education is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by American Nurses Association Massachusetts, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. We offer staff a robust selection of programs for continuing education.
Nurse-Led Case Series
Every month at Professional Governance, colleagues present a topic or case to their peers from throughout the medical center, focusing on both clinical care and the professional development needs of staff. It is an opportunity to share expertise, evidence-based practice and patient experiences, and fosters a culture of critical thinking and experiential learning.
Schwartz Rounds
Often held quarterly, these sessions give our health care team a chance to discuss the social and emotional challenges they face when caring for patients and families. In contrast to traditional medical rounds, the Schwartz Rounds focus on the human dimension of medicine.
Caregivers have an opportunity to share their experiences, thoughts and feelings on topics drawn from actual patient cases. The hope is that by sharing real-world experiences, caregivers are better able to make personal connections with their colleagues.
Scholarships
Lahey is fortunate and grateful to have several nursing endowments. These support a generous scholarship program devoted to nurses and other employees enrolled in academic nursing programs.
Nursing Research
Nurses at Lahey have access to resources that help them advance nursing research to ensure our practice continues to be evidence based.

Unit-Based Professional Development
A variety of opportunities are available in clinical units that help nurses develop their expertise in a clinical area or leadership role of their choice.
Clinical Specialties
We are a level 1 academic teaching hospital. We are an accredited comprehensive stroke center by the DNV and an accredited heart care center by the ACC.
We specialize in many clinical specialties, including neurology, cardiology, transplant, GI and urology to meet the needs our community.
Recognition
We have a variety of recognition programs designed to celebrate the impact of nurses, including peer recognition and system-wide awards.
Becoming a Lahey Nurse
Newly hired nurses are supported through a comprehensive onboarding experience that includes hospital and nursing orientation, followed by individualized, competency-based unit orientation using a preceptor model.
Our transition to practice programs include nurse residency programs in almost all of our care areas, as well as specialty orientation programs for experienced nurses new to a care area or new to Lahey.
Nursing Student Programs
Nursing students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through Lahey’s clinical placements and academic partnerships, as well as unique programs such as our Bermuda Student Program. Many students who train at Lahey choose to begin their careers here, continuing their growth within our nursing community.
