Orthopaedic Trauma


Andrew J. Marcantonio, DO, and John F. Tilzey, MD, PhD Lahey's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery provides comprehensive trauma and fracture care for patients in need. Our orthopaedic trauma surgeons are available and on-call to treat orthopaedic injuries and fractures 24 hours a day.

Lahey Clinic has an Emergency Department in Burlington and Peabody, with Burlington featuring a Level II Trauma Center verified by the American College of Surgeons.

Available Trauma Services

Lahey's trauma and fracture care includes:

  • Routine fracture care
  • Reconstruction of complex fractures
  • Minimally invasive fracture care
  • Treatment of complex geriatric fractures
  • Evaluation and management of isolated and poly trauma
  • Diagnosis and treatment of complex pelvic and acetabular injuries
  • Periprosthetic fractures (following total hip or knee replacement)
  • Treatment of non-union and malunion of fractures
  • Treatment of orthopaedic infections
  • Reconstruction of knee dislocation and multiple ligament injured joints

Teebagy, MD, checks up on a patient receiving a cast.Lahey's staff includes a fellowship trained orthopaedic traumatologist who specializes in the definitive care of multiple and complex injuries. All on-call orthopaedic surgeons are highly qualified to provide care of fractures and orthopaedic trauma.

Lahey's orthopaedic practice is enhanced by collaboration with our medical and surgical specialties, and our physicians work closely with diagnostic and interventional radiologists to access state-of-the-art imaging.

Goals

The goals of the orthopaedic trauma team are to provide timely, accurate diagnosis, achieve stable fixation of fractures, and implement rehabilitation to allow early recovery and a return to normal function.

A Multidisciplinary Approach

Lahey orthopaedic surgeons are part of a multidisciplinary trauma team that also includes specialists from the Departments of General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Diagnostic Radiology, Emergency Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
